How to reach the city

By Air

Florence’s airport, Amerigo Vespucci, is located at the highway exit Firenze Nord and is only 4 km from the city centre.

The centre of Florence may be reached by taxi, usually available just outside the arrivals area, or by the “Vola in Bus” shuttle bus service, run by ATAF, the local transport company. The shuttle bus runs between the airport and Santa Maria Novella Train Station in central Florence. It takes around 20 minutes. Departures from/to the airport are approximately every 30 minutes starting from 6am until 8.30pm. Tickets can be purchased on board (€5).
We can also arrange for a car to come and pick you up at the Airport for a fee of €35.

By Train

Florence’s main train station is Santa Maria Novella (Firenze SMN). It is located in the city centre, less than 10 minutes from the Duomo and is in walking distance of many of the main sights of Florence. The station is also one of the main connection points for the buses that link the centre with the rest of the city and the surrounding areas.
An increasing number of national and international trains are being directed to Campo di Marte, Florence’s second most important station. It is situated just outside the circle of wide avenues (Viali) that encompass the historical centre.

By car

The historical centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL), therefore only accessible by car after 19:30 or all day Sunday. Paid parking may be found along the River Arno (Lungarno) – paying from 8am to 8pm – WARNING: only the spaces marked in blue.

If you’ve come to Florence by car, whether for a day trip or a holiday, we would advise you to park outside the ZTL or in one of the garages listed below, who will register your license plate number with the relevant authorities and give you a receipt.
